Agree. Have you guys watched this movie - "About a boy"? The story of "About a Boy" was adapted into a film, based on a 1998 novel by British writer Nick Hornby. The main character - Will didn't need to worry abt anything (or undeveloped). The main character's father was a one-hit wonder - song of Santa Claus.
"About a boy" - all i remember is Hugh Grant's big eyes on the book's cover XDD
